Even the dogged Trackspeed spirit was tested at the infamous Spa circuit this weekend.
The team had glowed in the 24 Hour race as nightfall fell raising up to the Top Six of the GT2 class. This was especially impressive given the car being hit into a spin by at GT1 car, whih saw the Trackspeed Porsche heavily kiss the barrier. A good 23 minutes were lost as the damage was recitified but as always the team fought back.
But a suspected driveshaft failure left the car stranded on the circuit after 17 hours of racing and a premature end was called on the team's race. However, investigation has shown that a clutch plate failure was the culprit.
“With all the effort the team has put in to do the championship, especially this event, it’s massively disappointing,” said Richard Williams. “The cause of our retirement isn’t conclusive yet, but it seems that other cars have had similar problems, so we’re just trying to get to the bottom of it. But I’m sure we’ll figure out what the problem is, and bounce back for the next race.”
Team Manager Ricki Martino and the drivers extend their thanks to all the boys working at Trackspeed at the weekend. A sterling effort all round was sadly not to be awarded with a finish but it was a spirited and passionate display from all the team.
Next time Spa, next time!
